World Malaria Day 2023

In honor of World Malaria Day 2023, a clean-up campaign was carried out in Sandpit, Buea, bringing together community members, volunteers, and local leaders in a united effort to combat malaria through environmental action.

Recognizing that stagnant water and poor sanitation are major contributors to mosquito breeding and malaria transmission, the campaign focused on clearing blocked drains, removing waste, and eliminating potential breeding sites across the neighbourhood.

What made this initiative truly impactful was the active collaboration with residents, who had also organized their own clean-up efforts in parallel. This synergy fostered a strong sense of community ownership and engagement, reinforcing the message that malaria prevention starts at home. The event served not only as a practical intervention but also as a platform for awareness and education, reminding everyone that clean environments are key to reducing the burden of malaria.

By working hand in hand, the people of Sandpit demonstrated the power of grassroots action in advancing public health. As we commemorate World Malaria Day, we celebrate the resilience and commitment of communities like Sandpit, who continue to take bold steps toward a malaria-free future
