Supporting Displaced Families: A Visit to the Makepe Camp in Douala

The ongoing crisis in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon has led to the displacement of thousands of individuals and families, forcing many to flee their homes in search of safety and stability.

Among them are over 50 internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently hosted in a modest camp located in Makepe, Douala. These individuals, uprooted by conflict and uncertainty, now face the daily challenge of rebuilding their lives far from home.

This camp is the result of a compassionate initiative led by a local chief who recognized the urgent need to provide shelter and care for the most vulnerable. His leadership and generosity have created a safe haven for these families, offering them not only a roof over their heads but also a sense of community and dignity. However, despite these efforts, the camp continues to struggle with limited resources. Housing remains inadequate, and access to basic necessities such as food, clean water, clothing, and healthcare is still a pressing concern.

In response to the needs of the children living in the camp, Save a Soul Foundation organized a visit to offer support and encouragement. Understanding that education is a powerful tool for resilience and hope, the foundation provided school materials including notebooks, pens, pencils, and backpacks. These supplies were distributed with care and joy, aiming to motivate the children to continue their education despite the difficult circumstances they face.

The visit was more than just a donation, it was a moment of connection, empathy, and solidarity. Staff spent time interacting with the children, listening to their stories, and reminding them that they are not forgotten. The smiles on their faces and the excitement in their eyes were a testament to the impact that even small acts of kindness can have.

Save a Soul Foundation remains committed to supporting displaced communities and advocating for sustainable solutions to the challenges they face. The situation in Makepe is a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of collective action in times of crisis. As we continue to extend our hand to those in need, we call on individuals, organizations, and institutions to join us in creating lasting change for displaced families across Cameroon.
